Stay Sober Challenge: Drink Less for the Holidays
October 29, 2019Cider Week 2019: Virginia
November 15, 2019We would like to welcome everyone to our first installment of Cider and Snacks! In this series, we will be reviewing a cider and a snack to see how well they pair together. This is a bit of a change-up from how we currently review things with a number-based rating system, but it will be a fun way to learn about cider food pairings! For our first episode, we featured Courthouse Creek Cider and Spencer’s Jerkin’ Jerky. These are both products from Virginia but you can get Spencer’s products worldwide via their website.
Courthouse Creek Cider is a Virginia cider that is available mostly around Richmond. They feature cider made with heirloom apples and minimal intervention. Their ciders are primarily focused on apple forward flavor profiles but they do offer some other interesting flavors as well. This is evident in their Samurai Sour which is an Asian pear and apple cider infused with coriander, hibiscus and sea salt. The cider we tasted in the video was a specialty cider but their Rustico would be a good change out for tastings. You will start to notice their approach more and more as you go through their bottles when you see the sediment at the bottom. The true natural evidence of an unfiltered product that adds a bit more flavor to the profile as well. The best part is that you can visit one of their two locations and become part of their cider club this gets you exclusive tastings, 4 or 6 bottles twice a year and additional discounts and event invites. If you are interested in finding their ciders visit their page here.
Almost everyone has had beef jerky in their lifetime varying from the grocery store varieties to hand made products. Spencer started the business in early 2018 and decided to push for fresh and unique jerky from all-natural ingredients and locally butchered steaks. This philosophy is evident in their flavors and their spicy flavor profiles. Their products include flavors like mandarin jalapeno, lemon pepper, old bay, and some other spicy varieties. The best part as we stated previously is that you can get these shipped to you worldwide via the beautiful thing we call the internet. That means you can get hand made delicious jerky on-demand to pair with your cider! To learn more about their offerings visit their website or social media pages.
