Hoplark has put together one of our favorite non-alcohol lines of flavorful drinks that we might have ever had, and it really made us happy during the summer of 2020 right into the dragging winters of 2021.
Getting personal, Trevor and I like to partake in periods of sobriety and, when drinking, have a combination of cider, beer, and other alcoholic beverages. For me, Nolan, I do enjoy beer but it never really sits well in my stomach. So, when I heard about Hoplark’s Hoptea, I was instantly intrigued. All of the flavors of hop mixed with the soothing elements of different teas? Some of my favorite cider lately have been tea-based ciders and hopped ciders. And, if you needed a kick, it contains some of the caffeine if you want or no caffeine, for some flavors, if you don’t. Perfect!
This all started over a beer, or lack thereof. Friends Dean Eberhardt and Andrew Markley were at a craft brewery while Dean was nearly finishing up a month off of drinking, in an effort to kickstart some healthier habits.
But it wasn’t the buzz Dean realized he missed — it was the ritual, the familiarity, the camaraderie. The smell and taste of that hoppy, bubbly cold ale his buddy was enjoying. The craft beer experience. And that’s when it hit them. To brew tea like beer, with the hops, but without sugars, additives or any fermentation.
Starting at a summer of farmers’ markets, but quickly advancing to the grand prize at the 2018 BevNet New Beverage Showdown, a 2019 Best New Beverage Award from the Natural Foods Expo West, and a Boulder, Colorado taproom and brewery, HopTea is bringing the uncommon libation to the craft craving people. Not your grandma’s sweet tea. Hoppy, but with less punch than your best friend’s IPA, HopTea is for those looking to fuel their curiosity.
Each of Hoptea’s drinks are balanced, beer-like, and delicious. You can pick your hop level or caffeine level, but each one is delicious in a similar fashion. My favorite was the chamomile tea, but it depends on your palate. All of their teas are Whole30 approved, and contain 0 calories and 0 sugar! The hopped teas come in 16 Oz cans and a 12 pack costs $35 for a one-time purchase. You can get a discount if you get a subscription to their service.
