Toadfish Can Cooler Review
November 3, 2020Why is it Called Hard Cider?
November 12, 2020This year the world is yet again getting creative to share the holidays with their family. There are a ton of great ideas out there on how to get your digital Thanksgiving feast on. We are here to help you plan a cocktail hour with your family or share a cheers to good health and hope with a cider toast! Even if you do not drink cider, this is a good set of guidelines to follow to share time with family this holiday season.
Step 1: Pick your group
This step is key because you can’t set up a virtual call alone (although you can still polish a bottle of cider off alone with some turkey, we aren’t here to judge). Whether it be a group of close friends or family, make sure you include everyone as you are planning.
Step 2: Pick your digital meeting room
The choice of program or app that you will use will really depend on the group that you selected above. It will also matter the technical savvy of your group as well so chose wisely and someone make sure grandma knows how to get in the meeting. Some options include Skype, Zoom, House Party, Google Hangouts, amongst many others.
Step 3: Pick you time frame and date
I think this step is self-explanatory pick a date and a time and let everyone know! Either create a Facebook group or send everyone a calendar invite.
Step 4: Pick your cider cocktail or cider of choice
We are now to the best step of all selecting your cider or cider cocktail to cheers to and virtually celebrate the holidays. If you are going the easy route perhaps pick a cider that is local to your family and friends so they can easily snag it. If you are able to make a cider cocktail or pick up cider and deliver it to your guests, even better! It is all about getting them the beverages we so seek around the fall time. If you like fall flavors, there are plenty of pumpkin or fall-themed ciders, so you can be more festive!
Like cocktails? Here are some cocktail ideas if you are leaning that way:
If you need to find a crowd pleasing cider, pick something that has a bit of sweetness left to help please more palates and, if you are buying individually, then the sky’s the limit for your team!
Step 5: Are you eating?! Don’t drink on an empty stomach!
You don’t want to say anything embarrassing while on the chat. Make sure to soak up some of that booze with some homemade snacks. You know, cider isn’t only for drinking! You can cook with it, too. Make sure to keep your appetite for some of these delicious Friendgiving treats! You can always scale up or down these recipes if you are shipping the food to a friend, dropping it off at the door, or just eating alone. Making these meals gives us a sense of…normalcy, and we like that right now!
Step 6: Get on the call, play games, and enjoy!
The time has come and we are all gathered around our glowing screens. Although this is not how we imaging the holidays we can try to make the best of it all. Raise a glass and enjoy your libations you have earned it!
If you are in need of games or activites to play, we have a few suggestions for you!
- Play Jackbox Games – We’ve done this several times over quarantine. Jackbox allows you to play games over the internet using your phone as your device to play. They have several boxes ranging in price. We suggest using Twitch, Zoom, or something like Playstation Share Play to have a decent connection. One person will have to fire it up, but everyone can log in on their phone.
- Card games – Sure, you may not be able to flip over the cards if not in person, but many games are still possible. We play Cards Against Humanity and Exploding Kittens digitally as we have the same set as our friends. We just split the deck and keep all cards in front of us. Adding an extra screen can keep a camera on the main card of interest, so it feels just like you are in a room with the decks in the center!
- Charades – You don’t need a deck of cards to play. There are online generators to help with ideas. Set up the camera and start acting.
- Storytime – either just catch up with friends or find a theme for an opportunity to share your favorite “family vacation” or “scary moment” or favorite cidery visit!
Either way, we are sure you will have a good time and please make the most of the holidays in the best way we can, with friends and family talking!
