When it comes to the cider market across the US we see the scale and diversity much like the craft beer world. One of our favorite small ciders is located outside of Austin, TX, and more precisely near Lockhart. They currently have four ciders to choose from (Old Haunt, Secret Handshake, Lucid Dream, and Sneak Thief). They are releasing a new cider this call called “Wild at Heart” and will collect proceeds for the Texas Animal Rescue. The release will coincide with the launch of a speakeasy-style taproom on the cidery grounds. Get to know the cider flavors and the cidery better below and explore the unknown but don’t get lost!
Who is Lost Horizon Cider Mill?
This is a small batch cidery in the woods outside of Lockhart, Texas. Created in 2019 by Al and Shawn Jones, a father and son team who love building and creating a repurposed shipping container cidery. Shawn Jones is an Austin area musician working mostly as a composer for different media. He led the creative direction of their products and created the ciders as well. Al is a retired Army Colonel and has experience in small business. He handles the number side of the business and helps keep the property maintained. Anna is a sales lead with the direction of pushing these awesome products into new markets and helping them grow. This is all followed up by Jamaica Cole who is the graphic designer creating labels that bring the flavors to life.
Getting to Know the Cider
Lost Horizon Cider has a variety of flavors and cider styles on display. Not only do they have amazing flavors, they have some of the best names and designs in the space. Here are some of their products:
- Old Haunt – This is a cider with pear, fig, vanilla, and rum-infused oak.
- Secret Handshake – This cider is full of coconut, ginger and lime.
- Lucid Dream – A cider with organic orange and oak-aged vanilla.
- Sneak Thief – Dry tart apple cider
- Wild at Heart – A new cider releasing this fall which is a blend of Mcintosh apples with Montmorency/Balaton Cherries.
