Getting to Know Starcut Cider

While the Midwest is full of beer, wine, and cider, not many states do it as well as Michigan.  What’s even more rare is a brewing company that brings unique and fresh ciders.  If you head to the northern reaches of Michigan past Traverse City, you will reach Short’s Brewing Company, owners and creators of Starcut Cider (founded in 2014). This cider brand was created to bring clean and distinct ciders for the modern palate — flavorful, dry ciders with less than 1 gram of sugar.

Starcut Flagship Offerings

You will find that Starcut brings flavors and products that are familiar and inviting, creating a flagship selection that is formidable. Their flagships include Pulsar, Octorock, and Mosa.  For simplicity, the Pulsar is the bone dry cider, Octorock is their semi-dry, and Mosa is a crisp cider blended with orange juice akin to a Mimosa.  Outside of these year round offerings they are known for some of their seasonal offerings such as Phuzz, Immortal Jelly, and some amazing wild-ferment ciders.  

Erraticus Series

The Erraticus series consists of rare, wild ciders that are fermented with the best Northern Michigan orchards.  They are slowly fermented with wild yeasts before being put into barrels or with fruit for a secondary fermentation.  The result is complex and delicious offerings that even the biggest cider connoisseur would appreciate.  All together, the diversity of ciders, both traditional and modern from the brand, are refreshing and showcase the landscape that surrounds Northern Michigan.
